Consolidate Your Social Media Identities With Hi.im
Posted on 29. Sep, 2009 by Zahid Lilani in Social Media
Internet is now saturated with social media websites and it’s really hard for people to let others know about their existence on all the social media networks. Hi I’m lets you consolidate all your social media identities and content from all of your networks on one page.
Hi.im creates a short-URL-style page that gives a quick glance to anyone visiting your page at your web activity. If you want to tell people about all your online identities, ask them to visit hi.im/yourname. Unlike Google Profiles, hi.im will update your page as soon as you post something new on any of the following currently supported social media websites:
Twitter
Digg
Youtube
LinkedIn
Facebook
Flickr
MySpace
FriendFeed
GitHub
12Seconds
Seesmic
BrightKite
Vimeo
Last.fm
GetSatisfaction
EmberApp
When I signed up for Hi.im, I used Twitter instead of creating a new account. You can also use Facebook connect to sign up. Once you signup, provide Hi.im with your username for all the other social media websites and it will quickly add the public feeds to your page as well as a link to your profile.
I really like this one feature on Hi.im, its called highlights. Basically, you provide a title and a link to any website/blog of your choice. The purpose is to put your best work forward, excellent feature for designers with small to medium sized portfolio to showcase. On Hi.im home page there is a popular tags column. Of course as the service is new, popular tags are blogger, design, facebook, twitter, developer etc. Add tags to your profile that reflects your interest so that others can find you too.
Here is an interesting fact, Hi.im was built in 48 hours, I am not kidding. They built it for some some competition known as Rails Rumble where it won the First place.
Hi.im is an excellent service that needs a lot more features to stand out from other similar websites that I see popping up in future. Currently what is working in their favor is the short URL which is easy to remember and seems like it is desired by everyone these days thanks to Twitter.
My Hi.im page.
P.S. Why the heck do they have Chuck Norris right at the top?
